Insolvency Statistics Quarter 2 2013
The insolvency statistics for ther second quarter of 2013 were published by the Insolvency Service on 2nd August 2013. Details of both company and personal insolvencies are set out below.
Corporate Insolvency
There were 3,978 compulsory and creditors voluntary liquidations in England and Wales in quarter 2, an increase of 10.5{06aeb1921e0b802d2bd9c766bc98fb11cc6a46c2b0593ed9c88a0e29cf417a34} on the previous quarter but 2.1{06aeb1921e0b802d2bd9c766bc98fb11cc6a46c2b0593ed9c88a0e29cf417a34} less than the corresponding quarter in 2012.
There were 961 compulsory liquidations (down 6.6{06aeb1921e0b802d2bd9c766bc98fb11cc6a46c2b0593ed9c88a0e29cf417a34} on both the previous quarter and the same quarter last year) and 3,017 creditors’ voluntary liquidations (up 17.3{06aeb1921e0b802d2bd9c766bc98fb11cc6a46c2b0593ed9c88a0e29cf417a34} on the previous quarter but down 0.6{06aeb1921e0b802d2bd9c766bc98fb11cc6a46c2b0593ed9c88a0e29cf417a34} on the 2nd quarter of 2012).
This means that 1 in 155 active companies went into liquidation in quarter 2.
In addition, quarter 2 statistics show that there were 192 receiverships, 622 administrations and 160 company voluntary arrangements in the same period.

Personal Insolvencies
Official statistics show that there were 25,717 individual insolvencies in quarter 2. Although this was a decrease of 6.1{06aeb1921e0b802d2bd9c766bc98fb11cc6a46c2b0593ed9c88a0e29cf417a34} on the same period a year ago, in the twelve months ending quarter 2 2013, 1 in 427 adults became insolvent.
Interestingly, bankruptcies were down by 20.1{06aeb1921e0b802d2bd9c766bc98fb11cc6a46c2b0593ed9c88a0e29cf417a34} on 2012 at 6,469, debt relief orders, at 7,132, were down by 10.4{06aeb1921e0b802d2bd9c766bc98fb11cc6a46c2b0593ed9c88a0e29cf417a34} on quarter 2 of 2012 but the number individual voluntary arrangements were up by 6.8{06aeb1921e0b802d2bd9c766bc98fb11cc6a46c2b0593ed9c88a0e29cf417a34} at 12,116.
