According to the Insolvency Service, individual insolvency figures peaked in seaside resorts, Merseyside and the north east during 2014.

Statistics also show that female insolvency rates were higher than males (for the first time).

Ages 35 to 44 for both sexes represented the highest insolvency rate.

The north east had the highest individual insolvency rate during 2014, at 29.2 per 10,000 adults. The region has experienced the highest rates of bankruptcies, IVAs and DROs since 2008.  The countries capital had the lowest rates for each type of insolvency last year.
