Retail sales in the United Kingdom grew less than expected in the lead up to Christmas, a vital time for most retailers who hope to make recover past woes.  But with the outlook for January also weak, it’s been a very difficult year once again for the retail industry.

Among the sectors, food outlets reported good sales, as did clothing shops, but footwear and leather sales growth fell.
