As from the 6th April 2016, individuals who wish to declare themselves bankrupt (known as a debtor’s petition) will be able to do so on-line.  Due to the streamlining the cost of the applications will reduce to £655.

Previously debtors were required to file their applications at the relevant County Court covering their jurisdiction, as well as attending in person for the subsequent hearing.

However applications will now be considered by an Adjudicator appointed by the Insolvency Service.

Creditor petitions however remain unchanged and will still involve a Court filing and process.
