Business groups have warned that the Calais crisis poses “a threat to the long-term viability” of British companies. Businesses have begun to calculate the cost of delays through the Channel Tunnel.
It costs £1 a minute to run an HGV (heavy goods vehicle), so when delays occur it can cost significant sums for exporters to Europe. These are usually costs which have not been budgeted / planned and directly impact the bottom line.
