Financial Times reports that HMRC are charging taxpayers who fall behind on repaying tax debts.  7.5{06aeb1921e0b802d2bd9c766bc98fb11cc6a46c2b0593ed9c88a0e29cf417a34} of the outstanding tax is charged if officers make visits to their homes. HMRC said the “Taking Control of Goods” powers, introduced last year, were used when debtors failed to respond to multiple attempts to engage. Michael Avient at UHY Hacker Young said fees for visits was “something that has gone under the wire” while Tessa Lorimer at Withers said the powers were disproportionately hurting small business owners.
