There were more homes sold throughout the United Kingdom than in any month since February 14, reports show.

The data produced by HM Revenue and Customs show that approximately 106,000 properties were sold during August.

It is the third consecutive month that sales have exceeded 100,000.

Nevertheless this is still well short of the sales of nearly 150,000 experienced during the housing boom in 2006.

House prices

The latest official figures showed that UK house prices rose by 5.2{06aeb1921e0b802d2bd9c766bc98fb11cc6a46c2b0593ed9c88a0e29cf417a34} in the year to the end of July. This is well above the level of prices in general, with CPI inflation standing at zero in August.
